aiden + helix.

helix has always been somewhat of a cuddly dog. when i was pregnant & spending lots of time laying down on the couch, helix would always lay with me. sometimes when i was sick he would even come poke his head in the bathroom to check on me. :] but he doesn't always know how to handle kids... he likes to hide under the table most of the time when they are around. so james & i were curious how he would handle having a human brother.

when james helping with aiden's first bath in the hospital, the nurse asked if we had any pets at home. james told him about helix, and the nurse gave james the little hat aiden had been wearing since birth and told him to give it to our friends who were looking after helix for us so that he could get to know the smell of the baby. i thought it was a really nice gesture by the nurse. and don't worry, aiden got another hat to wear. :]

nevertheless, there was a fair bit of apprehension about how helix would react once we were all under the same roof again. overall, i'd say things are going pretty well. there was an adjustment period, of course, where helix wasn't sure about this new little attention hog. but just last night, i went to check on aiden who was playing in his crib and found helix sitting next to the crib. sometimes when aiden cries, helix will come to check on the situation, but helix has never really barked or responded much when aiden cries. he does occasionally come sit down in the middle of the action when one of us is playing with aiden... as if to say, "i'm here too!" hehe. anyway. i hope as aiden grows and becomes more curious about the dog that helix learns to tolerate it. obviously, we'll do our best to teach aiden how to treat the dog properly too. but i am excited to see a bond between them grow. :]
